How to run a boxing night

It takes very little effort. Try one on a quiet night, then make it a monthly fixture.

Step by step

  1. Pick a quiet night. A Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday works well, when the bar needs a reason to be busy.
  2. Put the posters up a week before. At the bar, by the toilets, on the door, and as a photo on your Facebook page.
  3. Choose a small prize. A drink, a bar tab, a meal or a cheap trophy. It is the bragging rights people want.
  4. Keep score on the night. Pin the leaderboard by the machine and write up each new top score.
  5. Announce the winner. Take a photo (with their permission) and post it. Then tell everyone the date of the next one.

Ideas to try

  • Top Puncher of the Month: a running leaderboard, with the prize handed out on the last Friday.
  • Team nights: darts, pool or football teams add up their best three scores.
  • Ladies’ and gents’ boards: two leaderboards, so more people have a chance of winning.
  • Charity punch-off: pick a local cause and give them a share of the night’s takings.
  • Match nights: run it at half time and after the final whistle when the pub is full.

Keep it fun and safe

  • Keep a clear space around the machine and the queue away from the swing.
  • Ask players to take off rings and watches before they punch.
  • Staff can switch the machine off at any time if someone has had too much to drink.
  • If anything stops working, call us on 0333 772 6293 and we will sort it.
